Fucking melted my brain that week. I got through it but every time I see that game i get that feeling like the first time you get real sick off goldshlager or jager when you were like 15 and get goes bumps and the quick shiver everytime you see/smell it….. I wasn't around for that challenge, but I took time off to watch the World Cup, so Monday to Wednesday were a couple hours of that followed by hours and hours of Code Name Viper on the hardest difficulty! I actually threw my controller down a couple of times - totally brutal! So I'm feeling the same way about CNV: I don't want to play that damn game ever again...

The way this year's tourney went, it was a foregone conclusion heading into the final round, so majorly anticlimactic, which is the opposite of what you would want to see... elite 8 would work perfect with three games. Exactly: three weeks, eight down to four, then down to two, and final week down to a single Champion!

Yeah, there's no perfect system, but having higher seeds choose the genre I think is a fair reward for participating more all year long, which is what you want most as an organizer: participation. Plus the low seed still has a 50% chance of going through since he only has to beat one guy. The bracket system is not perfect, but there's a reason it's so popular the world over... EDIT - and having the high seed choose the genre helps to offset a great player being seeded low, since the high seed will at least be playing a genre he is strong in... I don't think the tournament structure itself is the reason for any apathy, that preceded the tournament. I'll have to see the total end results to get a better idea, but it does seem like the effort applied in the tournament games correlates with the standings results. I thought this setup was pretty good It was awesome to see I got to play all 3 weeks regardless of finishing position. And with the last week being weighted twice as heavy and the min score requirements being legit, plenty of reason to keep playing and see what happens. And all those games were damn good. I was thrilled we got batman returns. Would have sucked to miss out on dk jr and viper if I hadnt made it far enough Edit: and @PIIbringing up racing cat again made me jump out of my chair with my hands up. Let me race him again. I will lose gracefully but fight hard. Edited December 5, 2022 by NESfiend

Anybody is going to have trouble with a specialist though. And that is a double edge sword I mean blowbot could knock me out if I’m playing a puzzle game. I love sneaking in as a low seed having the opportunity to knock out a high seed early but like morphius said getting to pick combats that. id actually like to see the organizer pick one game each week and all 8 players play the same game knocking out each other that way. That could work for a bracket or for another great option: one game, eight players, then top six go through to second round, then top four scores from second game go through to Grand Finals, and the best score of that final game determines the champ. That way, you have a 75% chance of playing at least two weeks and a 50% chance of playing all three weeks if you're willing to put in the effort to get decent scores in the early rounds... BeaIank | 1,682 Events Team ·
And with this, we end our 2022 season. Congratulations to @Dr. Morbis for winning the tournament and to @Krunch, @NESfiend and @docile tapeworm for the strong show up at the tournament. Thank you all for partaking in it. Once I deal with some serious family stuff here, I will post a post mortem thread about the 2022 season so we can discuss what went well, what didn't and how we can improve for 2023. 1 1

Going cold turkey on gaming for a while? All of the above. If you kick stuff all day pretty soon you don't wanna stop kicking. After the Weekly ended my brain was still kicking hard on various details of the competition in spite of it being over and how tired out I was, so Tournament time this year was basically a decompression sequence for me. Moderate effort Batman/moderate-small effort Q*bert/small effort DKjr.... So far: I'm mostly holding off a bit on buckling down on lots of tougher games on other systems that I've been wanting to start or get back to, eg. Sega CD, SNES, PS1, N64, Colecovision in favor of something more relaxing. So I've gotten back into "Dragon Warrior V", which I started a while back and got distracted from. I have quite a few 8-bit RPGs in fact, lined up in no particular order that I've been meaning to get to for far too long and I usually don't want to sacrifice that kind of time, but I feel like its been forever since I've played one... Also, been spending a lot more time reading actual physical books as opposed to gaming or reading online, which is Awesome. the_wizard_666 | 1,333
I'm trying to motivate myself to even play a game. I'm at 61 new NES/Famicom completions on the year, which means I'm 15 away from beating @Dr. Morbis's all-time best year, but I haven't played anything NES since round 1, and haven't played a game since beating Brigandine for the Playstation completion thread. I barely want to get out of bed these days.
