kiljo | 5
What are people's thoughts on replacing cartridge labels? I know from a game value perspective, it typically lowers the value. But what about for not super value games? I have this Banjo Kazooie that looks like someone got a little excited when taking off a price sticker... I think that I am going to get a replacement label, but should I get a repo cart to put the new label on instead of scraping this one off? Is it ever worth it to scrape off a damaged label with repo N64 carts being only like $5?

I have the original sticker and front, but the new label is just cooler

goldenpp72 | 1,251
I don't buy carts with damaged labels, if I did I would want them to be replaced though, but also with some way to know it's a reproduction just in case I ever did need to sell it. 1

Nugfish | 653
Repro labels are a bad idea IMO. Besides the rares, you can typically find a label in good shape for the same price with a little patience. I just replaced a Silicon Valley cart on ebay with a net profit of -$2. Tanooki | 5,125
Well I mean if you got it cheap enough, the damage is done, and it is your property and your choice then you need to decide. It's a $30 game these days really, so if you can find a nice quality copy of the original for a few bucks might as well. It's ugly, it only will get uglier, and a collector whether it's original or a copy of the sticker won't want it. It's a players copy which some use as shade against wear, so just fix it up and play it. It's a common game, strip the sticker and pop another on as you're not hurting anyone on this but yourself questioning it.
DefaultGen | 5,724
I would just sell it and get a good one. I would fear that the repro label makes it harder to sell. 2
Nintendopower4ever | 88
I wouldn't scrape the original label off just for a replacement label. It's not that bad 1
portabello | 104
I’d leave it alone. Game title is intact and both of their faces are nearly all there. A repro label would just make one think the whole cart is questionable IMO. Besides, ugly carts need homes too.
Kguillemette | 1,618
I very much have a players collection and condition isn't super important to me on cartridge games. I would rock that Banjo and Kazooie!

MrWunderful | 2,932
Sell as players copy and buy a minty one if it bothers you. Repro labels are garbage. 1

Hammerfestus | 4,107
Leave it. I mean you get what you pay for when you buy a beat up copy. If you were looking for something that looked nice you would have had to have been more patient until one popped up for a good deal or ponied up the $$. If you look to sell it I’d be totally out as a buyer if you put a repro label on it. At least if you leave the original beat label on there it’s clear what you are getting and I can decide for myself if it’s an acceptable amount of damage. 2
phart010 | 1,789
If you do a repro label you might as well make sure that the label is a different design than the original games label. This way nobody gets confused. There’s lot of good looking repro labels with alternative artwork
the_wizard_666 | 1,333
Yeah, I'd go with the alt art option if you do replace it, but the game is common enough that you could just get a nicer copy, and popular enough that you should be able to flip it even with the damage. Some people just wanna play the game lol
