Crabmaster2000 | 532
Finally made it to the final boss, but only had one life left and died. Sucks because on that run I lost 2 lives VERY early in dumb places too.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Finally beat Monster Lair after working on it for the past several days. Definitely a tough game. Like most Wonder Boy games it had a bunch of parts that just kill you the first time you reach them until you know to work around them. There is also a bit of luck involved with the power ups that drop since some are almost necessary in certain situations so if you don't get a good drop you'll likely have to take a death. Same with the bosses, most are pretty easy with the right power up so if you arrive without a good power up they can be quite challenging in some cases.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Been working of Forgotten Worlds for the last 2 days. Most of the game isn't much trouble, it's just the final boss who's a huge pain. Lots of runs stopped at that fight before I got a good one. Decent game though with a good variety of power ups to play around with. Pretty easy (other than that final boss fight) after a couple attempts once you start to build up your character. Crabmaster2000 | 532
Beat both Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 this morning. We own a Pen & Paper version of all of the mysteries on both of these games. It was weird to go back to a really clunky version of them from this era. The FMV actor's were actually mostly decent though. It was just a real pain to navigate and wait for videos to load. The newpapers were the absolute worst part of the game. Crabmaster2000 | 532
Just beat Lords of Thunder. This is one of my favorite games of all time. Havn't played it in quite a while, but it is EXACTLY as good as I remember it being...amazing. No notes. Probably has my favorite OST ever as well. If you're into shmups and haven't played Lords of Thunder you should check it out.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Worked my way through Beyond Shadowgate today. It was actually decent for a console point & click adventure game from the early 90s. Voice acting was alright too. Started and ended pretty strong, but most of the game in the middle was pretty dull, boring or nonsensical. Lots of silly ways to die like in the first Shadowgate, but definitely lacked the cool atmosphere of the original.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Been working on SimEarth A LOT over the past few days. I knew there were credits thanks to @Rishary's channel, but it took me a long time to figure out how to trigger them. It's actually not that hard now that I know what to do, but it took a lot of experimentation to figure it out. At first I was playing through each scenario and I almost finished that, but nothing was triggering credits. Turns out you just have to reach the Migration event off planet, but must be on at least Average difficulty for the credits to trigger. This is the most hours I've put into a Sim game in my entire life. Only really dabbled briefly with SimCity as a kid.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Prince of Persia is done. A bit better than the NES version overall. Such an important game and it's cool to see the design and movements, but it's not much fun to play due to the controls and combat.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Finished up Dungeon Explorer II today. It was a big improvement from the first game. Really liked it. The soundtrack was AMAZING. If you're in the mood for a Gauntlet/Zelda style game, but just a light version of those that can be beaten in about 4-5 hours this'll scratch that itch. There is also a fair amount of optional dungeons and tons of characters to experiment with and a few secret things too. Good way to spend a Sunday. Crabmaster2000 | 532
Took the week, but I just finished Cosmic Fantasy 2. I don't know if I've ever played a more uneven RPG in my life. It would go from you having a single party member with no healing spells traversing a tough dungeon all by yourself to having 4 party members with enemies doing 1-6 damage at most to you. One dungeon would be awarding you 1000+ experience points and then the next area AFTER that would only offer 500-600 exp for battles. It was very weirdly paced. Otherwise not overly memorable and not one I'll likely return to.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Been very busy for a while and then had quite a bit of trouble wrapping my head around this game, but was finally able to beat Lords of the Rising Sun. It was a pretty neat game once I figured out how to play, but it had a pretty steep learning curve. Unlike the NES KOEI games it was real time and pretty unintuitive at times (with a horrible interface considering you need to be quick). Once I got good at the mini-games that defend your castle and figured out how to win a military battle it wasn't too bad though. Just long. Crabmaster2000 | 532
Started playing Ys Book 1 yesterday and much of today. I think I'm nearing the end and might start Book 2 tomorrow if I finish in time.

Crabmaster2000 | 532
Finished up with Ys Book 2 now as well. It was also really solid. Strong start for the series so I'm eager to see if Ys III can keep it up!
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Started and finished Ys III Wanderers from Ys today. Short and sweet. Really digging these games and want to continue on with the series from here. Love the music and being able to beat an RPG in less than 10 hours is amazing. It's great to see someone discovering and enjoying this series, I love Ys personally. And the next few games do stick to the 10-12 hours of gameplay formula. Ys Seven gets a bit longer as the gameplay style changes pretty drastically, and they get longer from there.

I've got a couple local friends that have been playing the newer games in the series and really talking them up lately. I'm excited to see how the series has evolved and kept up over the years. It's been a total blind spot for me.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
"Beat" Magical Dinosaur Tour today. In fact I opened my sealed copy this morning as well. Was pretty fun to crack open a sealed game from 30 years ago. And now I'm also a dinosaur expert too, so that's neat. It really reminded me of my science fair project that I did in like 3rd grade where I just had a bunch of pictures of dinosaurs and like 1-2 sentences about each one. It wasn't much different than that project other than sometimes having slow load times.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
I've interacted with a lot of cool people on here over the years, but @Gex may have crossed over into a whole new realm of awesome. He lent me the 6 Turbo CD games I still need to be able to play through these all on original hardware!! They mostly happened to be the rarest and most valuable games on the system too! Just an amazing person!! 1
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Beat Dynastic Hero tonight. This is one I've wanted to try for years now and it was solid. The soundtrack seemed a bit out of place for most of it though, but another solid "Wonder Boy" kind of game.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Beat Super Air Zonk on my first attempt. It was fine. Each stage offers the chance to save one of your buddies which will give you a unique power up so it was cool to be forced to try every power up during a single run. Not a challenging or very memorable game. Final stage had some great music, but otherwise the music wasn't very special either.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Beat Godzilla. It's actually a pretty solid fighter. I can't think of another 2 button fighting game that actually works as well as this one. Has a surprisingly deep moveset considering the buttons, special moves are easy to use and the energy bar is a neat way to ensure they don't get spammed and players take some time to reload/defend/use other attacks. Multiple possible final bosses depending on your score. You have to play on Hard to beat this one otherwise it'll suggest you play the game on Hard mode. But on hard you get called the Primo Slasher! Crabmaster2000 | 532
Beat Cotton - Fantastic Night Dreams. Gotta do the 2nd loop to get the credits and the 2nd loop (Extra Mode) is a little bit harder than the first time through. First time through isn't bad at all and I was able to actually do it on my 2nd attempt without losing a life. Took a few more attempts to finally get through the 2nd loop though. Thankfully the last 3 bosses of the game are the easiest bosses in the game so as long as I could make it through the stages I was home free. Decent power up system and I like the exp gauge as well. I maybe had this game hyped up way too much over the years though as I'd much rather play Lords of Thunder of Gates of Thunder for a Turbo CD shmup. Crabmaster2000 | 532
Beat Syd Mead's Terraforming tonight. For some reason I just assumed this was a simulation game, like Sim Earth. So it was quite surprising to find a shmup. It was alright. Pretty generous with the power ups and there are unlimited continues so it's wasn't hard to beat on the Normal difficulty on my first attempt. Checked out the ending on the harder difficulties and it seems to be the same so I'm happy with my normal run. Some very cool visuals on some of the levels, but Stage 6 is one of the most headache inducing stages I've ever played.
Crabmaster2000 | 532
Got a trip coming up in a couple days so I wont be playing anything until I get back, but as soon as I return I'll dive into Might & Magic III so that I can get @Gex his games back as soon as possible. Then I'll just have Vasteel left to finish off the library!
