Nintendo Color Space Fever Arcade Pickup

It finally came in. This has been a long-awaited addition to my collection: Color Space Fever. It's an earlier Nintendo title that is basically just a clone of Space Invaders. It was also my first 70s game.

This was actually a rare instance where I bought a fully working machine. I did not have to do much to make it work as it's supposed to. The only thing I really had to do was clean out the start and select buttons. It looks pretty nice next to helifire.

Cabinet work was fairly minimal, the previous owner took pretty good care of it. The only thing was that the top of the table was separated, but I made pretty quick work of that.

Once that piece was firmly reattached, I was able to focus on the kickstand which props up the table. It got bent pretty bad at some point and the rivets that attached it were broken. Very easy fixes.

So most of the work is done already, at least all of the major work. I just want to clean it out and do maintenance now. I did a little video showing it off in case you want to see more.

That's incredible, makes me wonder like their Sky Skipper game if they'd ever recognize these even older lost to time games and throw them on their run of stuff too.  Someone would appreciate them for a few dollars.

I think that re-releasing them would be complicated. A lot of the programming and pcb development for their arcade games at the time were contracted out to a company called Ikegami. Even the original Donkey Kong was contracted in part. So ultimately they might not own the rights. I know they had to fight for Donkey Kong.

Fortunately, a lot of these older games won't be lost to time potentially, the roms have been dumped for a lot of them. I do know some like Block Fever haven't been dumped in part because they aren't easy to come by. Computer Othello only got into mame within the past year or two. I am gonna dump these roms to see if maybe they are a variant...

Was there originally no cabinet artwork on these?

There wasn't really artwork on the tables. Typically you would get a pretty generic control panel and an instruction card at least for nintendo. Artwork was mostly done on uprights but there were exceptions.

Space Fever (as far as I am aware) only really ever existed as a table.

I know this isn't a repair thread. But I finished a project for Space Fever yesterday: I made a simple fuse that goes inbetween the transformer and the power supplies. The power supply doesn't do anything to protect the transformer, so if one of the rectifiers shorts, it can cause problems.

I made a little board that mounts to the power supply and just adds fuses between the transformer and the power supply. No need to hack up the harness, plug n play.

This really does make me feel better about using this not so great power supply.
