Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites. Pickup in Ruby and Sapphire (and only those two games) has a one in ten chance to give your Pokemon a rare candy upon completion of a battle. As a result there is a strategy where you just load up on Zigzagoons and have one Pokemon you give all the rare candies to. I tried it out once out of curiosity and it was very effective.
