Recommended Posts

The games are part of a massive collection by two prominent collectors, nidouken and dubsy, almost 500 games including a gold NWC.

Both Pokemon games were upgraded from early 9.8 A++ grades (pre-2021). Here are some more announcement posts from both collectors about the games as well:

I think yellow was also sold around the same time as red but not 100% sure

What do you think?

Also I would be curious how Deniz all of sudden became in expert in sealed CDs. I just realized they are grading CDs now.

Deniz is gone, replaced by Claire Shelton.

Just to clarify, the 2 Pokémon WATA 10s were the same WATA 9.8 which then got regraded?

RIP whoever spend $15,600 on Rapjam Vol. 1 because it was a 10. Could've saved money on an old 9.8.

I don’t know whether to give you a laughing emoji or a sad face emoji.
I chose the latter.

That was mine.  I knew the 10s wouldn't be limited forever so I posted it for sale around $7 or $8k on Facebook I believe?  Sold and was then flipped within months, just a reminder of how crazy that hot market was.

As for the topic... cool I guess?  Bumping the 9.8s to 10s rubs some people the wrong way.  Not much you can do though.  It would make more sense if there were some newly created grade type (like an A+++ for perfect seals), not when the 10 A++ seal scale was there all along.

Yep, also I've said elsewhere that 9.8 / A++ is equal to 10, just like how 0.999... is equal to 1.

The round number is just reserved for hype.

It stinks that the experts graded these games wrong the first time. That alone would make me question the whole system. Or perhaps the games were upgraded arbitrarily for this pedigree. Also bad.

Also what are the parameters for qualifying as a pedigree?

Overall both Heritage and Wata are bizarre, and I’ll just ignore all this from now on.

That's pretty much how i feel. I don't think the upgrade does anything for me but confirm the scale / values of games can be altered at will. The facebook post by nido specified he felt the games could upgrade to 10s because "old Wata" (or whatever) withheld 10s. Which I mean, yeah, new Wata has absolutely given out more 10s, so it just solidifies a shift in standard that's not immediately clear to anyone but the people benefitting (which apparently means PSA employees lul).

But he's that sweet little kid that is in it just for the passion, we all know that.

omg are we still at this? plastic cases with a sticker that has a number printed on it? get real.

you're acting surprised to learn people still like graded games. just because people aren't posting about it on VGS very often doesn't mean we stopped being "at this" lol

A "10" for a video game is insane. There are so many more variables and opportunities for errors vs cards.

I think they were doing the right thing originally by withholding 10s, but they even had a thing on their page of what a 10 looked like (for years, I believe), when they should've just said a 10 is impossible.

9.8 always equated to PSA or CGC 10, imo. It does nothing to "change" the scale now except confuse people and piss people off.

Not to mention devalue old 9.8s which could actually qualify as 10s now 😂

Wasn't there a number of perfect Super Mario Lands around for a while from VGA (100 Gold)? I feel like I remember seeing them posted one time on NA. There could be more but that's the only time I think I remember seeing a perfect grade from that company. A regrade for A++ 9.8 tp 10 seems stupid to me but I never really liked how subjective this whole process was.

I had a few VGA games regraded by WATA and they all went up relatively even when I thought one specific VGA game was already 'over graded'. That's the way game grading go 😜

Actually, idk about VGA. I always felt they were much stricter when it came to high grades. The first WATA one I remember was I think Wolverine for NES? Someone correct me if I'm wrong there. That was a few years back.

The one they used on their website for example was Millipede I think, but idk if it was actually really graded ever.

I think all that was during COVID boom.

I think shifts in standards are bound to happen depending on how often similar items are being graded and who's doing the grading. However…

a shift from 9.8 to a 10 is not the same as a shift of 9.4 to 9.6 or any similar 0.2 increments.

A 10 should mean literally that, perfect upon close inspection. A 9.8 is perfect from a quick browse, but with very small flaws on closer inspection.

If WATA actually gave a perfect condition (10) game a non-perfect score (9.8), then that’s a flaw in their initial grading process. And if it’s actually an imperfect condition game (9.8) which got regraded as perfect (10), they’re not sticking to a proper grading scale, as how any consumer would define it. Overall, it doesn’t appear to be an action of credibility but more of a biased agenda. That’s my take anyway.
