Fleck586 | 326
So, I'm at a loss. I have been collecting amiibos from the beginning and probably 2/3 of them are still boxed. The problem is I just don't have space for them and I'd kinda like to use them. Funny enough, my wife (who hates these things lol!) is making me think there should be some market for the boxes if I open them nicely. I have scoured Ebay and, while there are some boxes that seem like they hold their value, I just wonder if the time it takes to preserve them is really worth it. Give me some feedback. What do you guys think?
DoctorEncore | 3,691
Free the Amiibos! I open all mine and even let my son play with them (). I have no idea if the boxes are worth anything, but the community at Nintendo Wire might be a place to start.
RH | 5,194
I only have one so it's definitely boxed.
BortLicensePlate | 652
I opened all mine. They were cool for a while but I grew tired of them rather quickly
noiseredux | 232
All of mine are opened. I think they look cooler displayed loose personally. Plus can use them in games.

Nugfish | 653
I ended up opening alot of mine. There are cool ways to display opened amiibos. I also saved the boxes for a while but I got tired of storing them...
noiseredux | 232
Those display things are awesome. I remember trying to find them super cheap at GS when they got clearanced out, but had no luck.
Gutling | 31
I had at the time of my selling of them a full, boxed collection. And omg was it so much space. in retrospect opened would have been much better/space saving lol. I been trying to make it a habit to be less of a hoarder and when I buy or get something (Such as a pop or amiibo) to actually take it out the box. I may pick up a few more in the future, of just the characters I want instead of everything, but right now im kinda happy to be free from their grasp
Gloves | 12,231 Administrator ·
You only keep boxes for things in two cases: 1) You REALLY care about the item itself, AND think that the box is a nice display piece 2) You plan to sell it one day I open my amiibos.
MuNKeY | 241
I'm about half and half, some open some not like my Cloud and Bayonetta P1/P2 set and gold Shovel Knight (have the OG one open already) All my Zelda related one I have are open, then 1st issue Shulk, Little Mac, Pit, Dark Pit I have not opened yet. All in all I think being loose and on the shelf looks much better than boxed anyway.
TDIRunner | 2,871
I only have the Amiibos that came with games, but I opened all of them because I use them with my games. They have been pretty helpful with several Zelda and Yoshi games and in Mario Odyssey as well.
Fleck586 | 326
I went ahead and opened a bunch of them last night and I don't regret it. I just don't have the space. I am keeping some of them boxed for now, though. I can't ever see my self selling, but you never know. So the ones that are valued pretty high are staying in their boxes.

The ones that do actually hold some value are perfectly fine to keep boxed, but I am glad to welcome you to our open-box kind

ALTQQ | 87
I opened most of them that I have. I have a few still sealed . Overall I think I have like maybe 20 total? I prefer them open they display better.
drxandy | 3,277
I think I have about half sealed and half open, I love using them in games. I keep the package and cut them so the figure could be placed back in at some point. Very bulky indeed to store, but the loose are contained in a ? Block bag which I dig. Strange | 1,727
The original boxes are tough to store and take up a lot of room. In college my roommates and I used to do amiibo tournaments on Smash Wii U to see whose amiibos could kick the other amiibos’ butts.
DefaultGen | 5,714
Cards are hard to deal with and easy to damage. At least something like Funko Pops are easy to stack and store. None of it's going to have any value anyway, open it and touch it with your greasy fingers.
AstralSoul | 522
All of mine are opened except my Link's Awakening one. I had 50+ amiibos but sold probably around 30-35 of them because I never used them and they were taking up too much space.
