Catching up on some stuff for the year...

Just started The Expanse Book One.  Only about 40 pages in but already pretty engaged.  And I'm still struggling through Malazan Book Six (800 pages in).  It's a very hard series to follow in general, but I'm finding The Bonehunters to be even more of a struggle than usual.  So many nonlinear stories and characters, I'm constantly lost.

I'm also reading one of the final Stephen King books, Faithful, which is about the 2004 Red Sox season.  It's basically a log of each game, one-by-one, which is not super engaging for me.  I'm very tempted to just skip to the postseason chapters, but the completionist in me is staying the course.  After this I only have Talisman, Black House, and the new book.

I recently finished Cabal by Clive Barker, which was adapted into Nightbreed, and also the short story that was adapted into Lord of Illusions.  And I finished the Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence, which was great.

And then earlier than that I got through Stranger in a Strange Land (blah), Yes Please, When You're Engulfed in Flame, Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Casino Royale (blah), and Bagombo Snuff Box (double blah).  All those misfires have me prioritizing stuff I think I have a high chance of loving going forward.

I'm in the midst of reading Stranger in a Strange Land. So far I'm enjoying it. I'm also reading the "long version". I didn't realize this, but there are apparently two editions. A much abridged version and what Heinlein had in mind which is far longer. Maybe you read the abridged edition? Or maybe not

But I will say I thus far (about 1/3 in) much prefer it over Starship Troopers.

Books 1-3 of the Witcher saga have been finished. I'm very much hooked.

I did finish Girl With the Dragon Tattoo recently also. That was a crazy ride with very well written characters. I Didn't even realize hours of life went by while absolutely crushing it. Knightfall sank to the back burner, as I'll likely be finishing the Lisbeth Salander trilogy while plugging away at Witcher. Oh, and I've been slowly acquiring these bad boys at thrift shops. Never heard a bad thing about them, and they were a huge deal when I was in high school.
