Frogfucius85 | 1
Hello, I am considering sending in a mint Dragon Warrior II CIB to Wata, since it is damn near impossible to find this game sealed and I'd like it as a display piece for the full NES set. I have heard conflicting things about whether the Monster Chart/Map was an in-box-insert for this game like it was for DW3 and DW4. The way it is folded suggests it may be a Nintendo Power insert that wasn't included in the box. I checked the NES CIB archive (which is amazing btw!), but DW2 is not on there, and probably never will be since even a sealed DW2 that is stepped on would be a collector grail. Does anybody know if this chart was included in the game box? I attached a pic of mine for reference. Thanks!
doner24 | 1,228 Moderator ·
That did not come with the game, it was a Nintendo Power give away regarding Dragon Warrior 1, but included this.

I believe the NP letter from the first Dragon Warrior mentions this insert, but I'd have to look to be sure.

Yeah, they came in a big envelope together as part of the subscription-giveaway for DW1/NP to get people hyped for DW2. (though didn't ship WITH the DW1 games that came with the promo, to my recollection as a kid at the time)
DoctorEncore | 3,691
I'm not sure how everything was packaged but here are the letters and an envelope for DW II.

There are different versions of the letters, but that envelope had the letters and the map posted by the OP.

doner24 | 1,228 Moderator ·
Here are the 4 different letters I’ve tracked down that came in the envelopes. Note the slight difference at the start in the ones with the red congratulations.
doner24 | 1,228 Moderator ·
Here are a couple other interesting pieces. This was a supplement to the DW2 guide, no idea how it was acquired. The other was a mail away to Warrior World subscribers as best I can tell trying to get them to order the DW4 guide as I can confirm the addressee was a subscriber to the Warrior World newsletters.
fbernard77 | 6
I would add that the « Labyrinth of World » map has 2 versions. The one that came with the Nintendo Power deal (white letter) and the one that came with the mail away offer. The mail away offer was from the last page of the instruction manual offer and is much harder to find. It came with the Secrets Unveiled book in a pretty basic brown enveloppe directly from Enix headquarter in Richmond (at the time). To differentiate them, the mail offer is of lighter tone, better print quality, sharper font and has « PRINTED IN JAPAN » on bottom right. Considering that the Secrets Unveiled was probably sold in stores due to having a price tag on the cover, I would tend to say that it is one of the hardest insert, if not the hardest insert of DW2 to find. Here are pictures for reference Edited June 4, 2021 by fbernard77 1 1

fbernard77 | 6
@Mr. CIB got lucky, only saw this map 3 times ever and since not much people know, it’s not pricier! A old lady sold to me the package with the enveloppe in mint condition. It was sitting in a desk drawer for more than 25 years!

I have yet to see the Dragon Warrior 1 mail in map. Sound like it was a little more rare than just in the box. Thanks for this thread to answer where this monster chart came from! I like documenting things like this. Keep it up!
