Tanooki | 5,125
Oh I know that some games did just that, but I'm just focusing on the obtrusive thrown bones and pop ups in the middle of your games the PS3/360 generation threw in our faces and got people hung up on. I know all sorts of companies did little tiny tweaks or icons. SMW wasn't the only from Nintendo, an early one for sure, but later games like the New SMB line will make it (idiotic it didn't always) so you can save any time, and the background color on a few games such as that would change color too. It's nice, but it's an after though, not an immediate pat on the head flow breaking annoyance as the game plays.
zeppelin03 | 314
I started playing OOT 3d on 3ds. They did a nice job reskinning the game. Looks really good considering the age of the base game.

Interesting you mention OoT...because I'm working on my first ever real 8th gen game (remakes/ports don't count), Dragon Quest 11 (PS4 version of course). And let me tell you I'm certainly getting my $25 worth so far! As I mentioned in my PS3/PS4 topic, would you believe during "party chat" (where you press a button and can talk with your other teammates) the cute Little Red Riding Hood (Veronica, no not Betty & Veronica) girl actually sometimes says "Hey, listen!" just like everyone's favorite fairy, Navi? Sumez | 3,166
Dragon Quest XI was a blast. Best RPG to come out since.... probably Chrono Trigger, in my opinion. I hope you took the hints people left around the internet to start the game with the stronger monsters enabled. It really makes the otherwise seemingly simplistic combat system shine, resulting in some of the most memorable boss fights I've had in any turn based system. Gamegearguy | 229
Hooked up my N64 and played some Mario Kart 64. It was very fun. A whole cup was decided in my favor by 1/100th of a second! And then, I got first place in Extra Special Cup. I beat the game. Man, Yoshi Valley is hard!
Redmond | 152
I love MK64 but can't really get into the series past that ( Double Dash is solid too tho ). Something about the feel/weight to the karts in MK64 that puts it above the others, it's too bad they went away from that weighty/grounded feel towards more slippery/light controls, more like Mario Boats at this point.

While I do the enjoy physics in Mario Kart DS, you're absolutely right. The series has become a floaty mess after that. Redmond | 152
I'm not big on handhelds ( granted I know there's a lot of great stuff on the DS/3DS, granted I will break down and play the 'Vanias on 'em ). I will try to check out MK DS though since you guys seem to be pretty + on it. And not to dog MK8 or some of the others too much, tons of content and whatnot it seems like, just not for me.
TDIRunner | 2,913
Mario Maker 2 is on sale for $40 so I picked it up and I've been playing that. Since that game pretty much requires the online service I had to finally sign up for that as well so I've also been playing the SNES games on the Switch online service. My 5 year old son loves Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8, so it was fun showing him SMW and the original Mario Kart.

It was my first playthough so of course I didn't do any of that. You wouldn't happen to know when the 100 token slots/poker unlock in the first casino do you? You wouldn't happen to know when the 100 token slots/poker unlock in the first casino do you? I can understand why it's easy to make that assumption, but the draconian challenges, or rather, that challenge specifically isn't really a "new challenges for later playthroughs" kinda thing. In general the base game was, upon its Japanese release, criticized for being far too easy, making combat a minor inconvenience at worst, and something you're just hacking and slashing through. The "all monsters are super strong" which was added for the western release is a massive game changer, and it really feels like the game was 100% balanced towards this from the start. There's a constant danger from even regular enemies that requires you to constantly alter your tactics on the fly, to adapt to what's going on in the battle. Although some boss battles were a major obstacle to me, the game never felt absurdly hard or insurmountable, but you could really feel how every single decision made in combat really mattered, which is extremely satisfying. To me, it's like 80% of the reason why I really love DQXI - like I said it's probably the best time I've had with any turn based combat ever. I've seen a lot of people who played through the game without realizing that option was there, and the absurdly "casual" level of the combat has been a recurring criticism, while I've also seen others who straight up started over with the setting enabled despite being several hours into the game - and everyone I've seen talking about doing that were happy that they made that decision. I really wish Square Enix had given players the option straight up front at the beginning of the game, rather than hiding it away in a menu that's only available during name entry, and super hard to miss... Estil | 1,292
Maybe if it had offered an extra trophy or a special ending or something maybe I would've went for it. Some of those bosses were tough enough already! And at one point when I had some new characters join my group (I think they were the last two) they were a full three levels ahead of me and my other teammates as if the game was telling me I hadn't been leveling up enough. Speaking of which (and I think IIRC this goes for PS4's Final Fantasy 12 too), you only get a bronze trophy for maxing out a character's level (99)?? That should be worth a silver at least...with a gold if you max out everyone. So I finally made it to the so called "Act 2"...and it took me almost 50 hours! I'm certainly getting my $25 out of this one aren't I? My only real complaint, if you can call it that, is that considering how the game overall looks very beautiful, I do think they were a bit stingy on some of the details (like when you zoom in on things for example) and finishing touches. Forgive me if this makes me sound like a good for nothing graphics whore but I guess I was expecting a little better in that regard for a PS4 game...if you can get what I'm saying? (you do get a special congratulatory message which I guess is the same thing, but eh, that's not the reason to do it) Whatever, it's up for you how you play the game, and I don't want to spoil your fun of course. If the meager enemies aren't spoiling the game for you, it's probably good for you. But you'll always see people everywhere recommending starting out on the stronger monsters setting for the simple reason that it can always be disabled at any point - but once you start your game, it cannot be enabled again. I don't really care about the graphics too much. I think the game looks beautiful, but I agree that the "details" are a little unimpressive. Since the DQ series is based on Akira Toriyama artwork, a game looking like Dragon Ball FighterZ would have been absurdly cool. But probably really hard to pull off in open free-roaming 3D. ErickRPG | 42
I was browsing amazon like I do often and discovered Two Point Hospital. With good customer reviews. Turns out it's the same dev just with many different people, but it even has the same announcer lady as Theme Hospital. It really does look like an unofficial part 2. Like they really tried to keep the feel of the original! Can't wait to play it and see all of the new funny diseases. And a physical version to grow my Switch collection too! ErickRPG | 42
how to you make fun of corona virus? Have corona beer stuck on their head? On a serious note, if COVID-19 kills your mom, dad, aunt, grandma or whatever. You'd probably stop joking. It hasn't happened to me yet, but we should be serious about a serious threat. Nothing wrong with poking fun at a stressful life situation. No one is forgetting that it's a serious public health issue. Two point is a fun game. I played it over a steam free weekend and enjoyed it. If I still played tycoon/sim games still I would have bought it. zeppelin03 | 314
I finished OOT 3d the other day so I am moving onto Majora's Mask. I always quit the game in the snow region on N64 so hoping to get through it handheld. This looks like the game that will really benefit from the upgraded visuals. Even the look of the forest at the beginning was that much more atmospheric.
