  1. Are you calling me a showoff, or asking me to post photos?
  2. Oh yeah almost forgot! I did a quick run last night where I took the skateboard through level 1. In case anyone is curious, unlike other games in the series you do NOT get a bonus for doing so, at the end of the level. Interestingly, you carry the skateboard into the next level. I got to the next levels skatebroad egg, activated it, and was too fast to see what it gave me instead of another skateboard, so I'll do another run to be sure. That said, it didn't give me any points, and may have simply been another skateboard with no effect.
  3. Limiting point racking is a simple and easy solve. Limit it to the default amount of starting lives. Ezpz.
  4. Yeah, the latter would probably be preferable - bonus points per lives remaining. Anyway, clearly people disagree with my points. Maybe I'm not making them well, or I'm patently wrong. I'm just trying to provide feedback that I think could help bring in more participants and make it seem less intimidating, as well as make it more fun for the lower end of the skill pool.
  5. To be honest I don't see the need for one, personally. That's not to say we'll never have one, necessarily, but there are simply other services out there that already do a fantastic job at crowd-sourcing data on video games. A quick Google search for "video game database" shows a few and they work quite nicely. What I may be missing in my mind is what the need is. Why exactly do you want a video game database here on VGS? What on earth did you use it for on NA? I never found it useful at all on NA, especially considering much of the data was outdated or simply incorrect. Rarity for instance was subject to change at a moment's notice if a palette of games was found in a warehouse or something, and to my knowledge stuff like that DID happen, and the site didn't seem to get updated. I could be partially wrong here but I know for a fact that I went searching to try and use the DB on NA a few times and noticed that info was not up to date. There are other IMO more interesting databases we might make, such as a DB of Homebrew games (something we ARE working on behind the scenes). Would something like that fill the void you're looking to fill? Homebrew games are an example of something I see not existing in an organized manner anywhere right now. There are however many databases for, say, the NES library.
  6. I disagree, but that's not to say that there's a right or a wrong here.
  7. Me, no. I'd just personally prefer that it was more inclusive, that's all. And frankly I don't see 1 life rules as inherently more difficult, only more frustrating. I think it's more impressive to dive into the mechanics of a game and really maximize it. Memorizing the layout of levels is easy, and more or less all that's required to 1 life a game.
  8. All I'm saying is that 1 life rules aren't particularly good at bringing in new players and making them long-term participants. It really only caters to the people who already do this regularly. Obviously this is not aimed at you.
  9. Exactly. And I mean, nothing says you have to one life it during PRACTICE. We could easily play to one death, take a photo, then keep playing to practice higher levels. But it's not quiiiite the same.
  10. I'm not huge on the one life rule personally. It makes it relatively competitive at the high end, but doesn't really provide much fun for people new to a game or with generally less skill. I'd personally prefer that the people with the most skill in a game battle it out optimizing runs, and potentially even using their extra lives to maximize points by sacrificing lives to restart levels and see who can do that best. That way we see less weeks where there's two or three people with high scores, one or two middling scores, and a bunch of people who can't beat the first level of a game. As it stands, since a lot of people kinda specialize in one or two genres, each week with a 1 life rule is gonna be a case of "who can beat the game in a single life, gets the top score". Not a whole lot of necessary optimization beyond that; I feel like we're not pushing ourselves to really get into the core scoring mechanics to maximize.
  11. Sidewalks are pretty rough for this rule. Every time I go out right now I have at least one person crossing the street to avoid being near me, and the rest (or myself) tend to walk down the middle of the road. Nothing in a city is designed around being 6ft apart from the next nearest person, quite the opposite.
  12. Consider also that a lot of people coming out of this will have survivor bias. There will be people who come out of this completely unscathed, and some of those will even think the whole thing was a hoax, or a huge overreaction.
  13. Skateboard is almost always a hindrance when going for points. When simply playing the game for fun however, it's a pretty fun mechanic with the added benefit of saving you if you get hit (and potentially then tossing you into another enemy or chasm!). Fun stuff.
  14. Tossed er in and gave a quick go between work meetings, landed at 25k before succumbing to a rotten eggplant. Knowing where those spawn is important hah.
  15. Nice. Now if only we had access to see our transactions...
  16. I totally forgot about them! Damn, so shitty they just ghosted...
  17. Would anyone be interested at all in watching some Star Force gameplay on Twitch? I'll be honest I love this game, and would be happy to chat through some playthroughs and share some tips and tricks now that the week is over.
  18. Here's my current score if you wanna throw me a bone posting a few minutes late like you've done for folks before... 1,917,300
  19. I have a good run going now, but simply am out of time.
