  1. if you have nostalgia for it........absolutely yes. if you still enjoy the games then for sure have fun! if you have three friends on your couch and four controllers.........maybe. there's quite a few fun games for it but they're definitely not everyone's cup of cola. if you're 19 and just getting into the "retro video games" scene...............no. i doubt you'll find the same appreciation for the comparatively shitty graphics and camera/control issues. i still love the concept of the n64 but i bust it out less and less as the years go by.
  2. you can't leave us with that tease.....now you gotta tell us!
  3. that's awesome! do you have a picture? if not, i'd love to track one down for you. any info you can give me would help. town/year/month/main event/any match you remember?
  4. man, i grew up exclusively on the NES, and it seemed like all of my friends were in the same boat. It felt like each friend had different games but they were all awesome. One friend had Double Dribble and Spy Hunter and we would spend all night playing them. Another friend had Battletoads and we battered each other for hours. A third friend's highlight game was T&C Surf Designs and it was glorious. These became some of the first games i searched for once i started down the collecting trail. SOOO many good memories. but a friend of mine's family had more money than we did (i always thought they were rich.....now i realize they were lower middle class and we were just dirt poor) but he had a Sega Genesis and i was just amazed at it. He later got both the 32x and Sega CD add-ons. We didn't play either much but thought the fact his Genesis essentially turned into a Transformer was the coolest thing ever!
  5. it is indeed. top labels from a seller on eBay (there was another discussion thread here where someone linked to his account) but i made it my goal in 2018 to finish up the set. i'm a loose collector and just let go of the boxes/manuals i had acquired on my way to this one. thanks for all the work you've put into archiving this overlooked stuff!
  6. this post being started by zeldaboy will seem really appropriate. i would hand draw maps for each of the Legend of Zelda games, and i still have most of them. here's some noteworthy stuff: this map also has the dungeon maps drawn on the back. i have a similar, but less complete one, for the 2nd quest also. a huge Zelda 2 overworld map. i've got dungeon maps too, but they aren't great to look at. while digging these out, i also found a letter from the game counselors at Nintendo. enjoy!
  7. good looking out! fantastic series that hits all my nostalgic spots!!
  8. this doesn't add much to the conversation, but it makes me happy to look at:
  9. growing up, my brother and i played a lot of NES. we'd always call in "Nintendo Thumb" when the muscle or tendon in the thumb would ache. first thing i thought of. in the n64 age, there'd always be a group of us playing whichever was the most current wrestling game. regularly this would lead to us wrestling in the living room. one friend broke his finger (partially blocked ninja kick), another got thrown through a wall (spear), and a third had to get 10 stitches in his head (hit with a filing cabinet drawer). not directly from video games, but i think this is close enough.
  10. i just hope they make a Let's Go! sequel with the Gold/Silver era Pokemon. never got into any of them after Gen2.
  11. PM sent! i get way more enjoyment out of the NA VGS Secret Santa than i would ever expect. This community is awesome!!
  12. thanks for porting this over! it was an excellent resource when i started putting my NP collection together!
  13. same here! i never managed to pick up Hyper Fighting, but repros of it are more available now than they've ever been so there's still time. a few years ago there were some guys working on a VB link cable. did that ever get finished and released? congrats on finishing the set OP!!
  14. my answer was the 32x, but it was my collecting focus last year and i finished up the library. something about those oddball unloved systems with the small libraries just appeals to me.
  15. Diablo is one of my all time favorite game franchises (second only to Legend of Zelda) so I'm always in on new iterations of that series. past that, couldn't care less what Blizzard does. with or without Activision. was really interested to see what happened this year after the mobile Diablo fiasco from last year.
  16. i saw a post and thought "i don't remember following this page on facebook" before i saw the notification. well played, sirs and madams.
  17. GVN worked perfectly well for what i used it for. an "at a glance" idea on price and let me track my collection. i really like the idea of subset tracking ("all Zelda games") but no idea how difficult this would be to implement
  18. at least SegaAge is still up.....
  19. x2. it's like you stole the thoughts right out of my head

    Leg Washing

this thread is a reminder to skip the VGS meetup. wash your legs!
  21. saturday starts with Monopoly. then beer pong (tournament if enough people). more general party stuff. kinda depends who shows up. Sunday's pretty chill. hanging out and horror movies. try to set up some activities around the theme Slasher Sunday this year, so set up a couple games with adjusted rules and such. good music, good food, and good company all three days!! open invite to any and all VGS'ers.
  22. to me! 37 years young. have my annual 3 day party planned. friday is always video game day. fighting game tournament, mario kart, 4 player Bomberman, and wherever else the night leads! how's everyone else doing this fine day?
  23. SS is also one of my favorite things about this community.
