  1. I mean, technically yes, but for this purpose I would say beating a boss and having a screen change would constitute a level. Though @BeaIank should probably clarify what counts as a level for progression, I would go with the in-game breakdown (found via the stage select code): Level 1 - Duh Level 2 - The first half of scene 1 (streets) Level 3 - The sewers Level 4 - First half of scene 3 (snow section) Level 5 - Parking lot Level 6 - First half of scene 4 (bridge) Level 7 - Skateboard section of bridge Level 8 - Scene 5 (after crash) Level 9 - Scene 6 (dojo) Level 10 - Scene 7 (Technodrome) See Basil, cheats do serve a purpose
  2. Are you dodging left and right or up and down? I find it's easier to get out of range if you move up and down rather than side to side. And don't forget about jumping away when you start getting surrounded. Basic strategies I know, but they're also the easily overlooked ones.
  3. Yeah, it took me forever to even get close to Rocksteady, but once you get it, you've got it.
  4. Stick and move. Whether you jump kick in and out, or you just walk up and down, the Foot Soldiers are briefly invincible after taking a hit, allowing them to hit you before you can get the second shot in. So hit, move away, and hit again. If you can get them to bunch up together, all the better, but just get away before they can hit you, then move in for the kill. The Roadkill Rodneys can be tricky, but they're a LOT easier overall, as long as you don't let them get away from you. If you can trap them on the edge of the screen, and get them bunched up, they're cake, as their invincibility window is shorter than their attack animation. They do take a bunch more hits though. Just play it safe and you'll get there. The bosses are where the real effort comes into play. I've only managed to beat Rocksteady once without dying, and that was more luck than skill imo, so I'm probably done with the game. Just don't rush and you should at least be able to get to him reasonably consistently.
  5. In fact, it does. So the maximum number of points when appearing at Bebop is 134, as I just confirmed. Looks like both you and @Dr. Morbis killed every soldier manually rather than with the manhole, where I killed all 3, but I happened to make up one point by attacking the woman on the skateboard. Not sure why they made attacking a civilian worth a point but not killing the Foot Soldiers with their own weapons though...
  6. Actually, I did. Does that deduct points? That would adjust the theoretical max on the Bebop fight to 136 then assuming you and the good Doctor didn't do that and used all three manhole covers to kill those enemies.
  7. Yeah, I loved this game as a kid, and it's still great, but a note for anyone who hasn't played through them yet, play them in sequence and you'll definitely enjoy them more. Another factor for me is that I find beat-em-ups to be more fun playing co-op than playing solo. I only even play through them with friends unless I have no choice (Mighty Final Fight comes to mind). That's the case with a lot of games. Learning the patterns is hard as hell sometimes. I can generally spot them easily, but the execution is where I have issues. I'm also not sure if it's just me or if others are noticing it too, but the bosses don't seem to have a pattern that they abide by. Rocksteady only has a couple things that he does so while he's not really pattern-locked, he's reasonably predictable. Bebop on the other hand, I find him very tough to predict. I even went so far as to save-state after my death and try out a few things...and reloading the state ended up with him doing different shit every time. I can figure out patterns with ease for most games, but in this case there's no consistency that I can find. That said, in many ways that makes it a better game to play...it's just a hard one for me to perform well in. Oddly enough though, I actually find TMNT 3 to be an easier game. Definitely longer though, but not difficult. I already answered this on the phone earlier, but I agree, this is an impressive port given the hardware involved, and for the time it was mind blowing. About the only thing they could've done better was enable 4-player support (might've helped sell some 4-Score units too), but other than that the game was amazing for it's time. It also holds up really well all things considered. I just find the third game to be better in every way.
  8. Not me. I don't really care for beat-em-ups in general, so I just don't find grinding out a no-death run in this game to be fun. A one credit run could be fun, but not a 1 life. I also have a hard time playing this when I've played the crap out of TMNT 3...it's hard to go backwards for me. I have that same problem with the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games...they're both great, but after playing 2 it's hard to play 1 again. That's just me though, I'm sure a few others will manage to get through with ease and enjoyment.
  9. I'm trying to figure out where I may have lost two points...anyone? EDIT: Did a quick run trying a few different things. I initially thought you could gain points from hitting thrown weapons, but that's not it. I did, however, realize that by hitting a weapon back at an enemy and killing them (ie when the Foot Soldiers toss a manhole cover at you and you hit it back at them), it does NOT give you a point for that. Assuming I hit all three in my run, @PIIand @Dr. Morbis appear to have missed 2 of the 3 manhole covers and had to kill the foot soldiers manually. So to maximize points, dodge their throws and kill them normally. Based on that, it would appear that the max would be 70 points after killing Rocksteady and 135 after killing Bebop (so 69 and 134 if the kills don't happen). Level 3 becomes a crapshoot though, since that's the first level where point pressing can happen. I may do a run to at least improve on my score (I doubt I'll want to play enough to kill Bebop, but I can definitely max out my participation score).
  10. Well, posted my participation, and that's probably all I'm gonna get done this week. I got lucky to get past Rocksteady once, pretty sure I don't have it in me to get past Bebop. But I may as well bask in the short time I'm going to be at the top of the leaderboard
  11. I never looped any of the levels after level 3, so I couldn't say for sure. I noticed that in levels 2 and 3 there are barrels that spawn of the screen that aren't there on the first loop, and the horse is on the opposite side of the screen from the barrels, so if that holds true it may do the same on later levels?
  12. Excuses are like assholes man. Everyone has one, and they all stink.
  13. He had a busy weekend. I'm honestly just shocked there weren't more of y'all finishing the game. Not that I'm complaining, since I got way more points than I expected this week, but I'm shocked there weren't many players this week.
  14. Man, I suck. I can't even get to the Roadkill Rodneys. Guess that's what I get for not playing it for...*checks list*...10 years. EDIT: Adding the unofficial scoreboard: @Krunch - Scene 6/Level 9 - 634 pts @8bitdontquit - Scene 6/Level 9 - 597 pts @JamesRobot - Scene 5/Level 8 - 556 pts @Dr. Morbis - Scene 5/Level 8 - 518 pts @NESfiend - Scene 5/Level 8 - 512 pts @mbd39 - Scene 3-1/Level 4 - 257 @PII - Scene 2-1/Level 2 - 133 pts @the_wizard_666 - Scene 2-1/Level 2 - 131 pts
  15. Level 2, 131 Points Man, I totally forgot how archaic this game is. And how frustrating the hit detection can be. I'm remembering why I haven't played it in a decade. And why I may not bother trying to improve on this score. Participation is all I have in me at this point. If it was TMNT 3, maybe, but this one sucks.
  16. That's what I did. I got good enough that I could loop the first three levels relatively easily, and then got lucky on level 4, which I did not loop at all. There's a definite difficulty jump in level 4 when the enemies come up from behind far more frequently than normal, so I honestly didn't expect to make it any farther, but yeah, sometimes luck trumps skill
  17. NOTE: This is going to be an ongoing thread. I'm going to list things here as I dig them up. As such, the list may be a bit bare at the moment, but bear with me - I have a veritable shitton of things I plan to sell, so keep checking back - and if there's something you're keeping an eye out for, let me know - I have a LOT of random stuff floating around... Anyway, this is where I'm going to list everything I plan to sell that isn't gaming related. Feel free to make lists from both here and my gaming sale thread here. 18. I've mostly been playing stuff for my personal list at this point (Final Fantasy and Tecmo Basketball), though I'm still chipping (slowly) at Bases Loaded, and have also made decent progress on Krusty's Fun House. Wish I had more to report on this front, but I needed to play something for myself with the limited time I have available.
  19. You expect me to be creative? I'm barely functional at the best of times!
  20. Once seen, it can't be unseen And I know it doesn't sound right, but @docile tapeworm has been slacking far too much lately. Someone's gotta do it
  21. Unofficial scoreboard is pretty sparse, and I rank way higher than I have any right to right now...c'mon everyone, I suck nuts at shooters, and to have only one guy looping the game at this point, considering how many of y'all are good at this sort of game, is just kinda...sad. On the plus side, all submissions are at least level 4 at this point, so it's not for a lack of effort. Anyway, since Skinny stopped doing it, I figured I'd do the leaderboard up for y'all to see where ya stand: @Dr. Morbis - Full Loop, 67,670 @the_wizard_666 - Level 5, 120,060 @8bitdontquit - Level 4, 145,590 @PII- Level 4, 95,170 @mbd39 - Level 4, 93,050 @docile tapeworm - A fat load of nothing
  22. No @0xDEAFC0DE on the Sports leaderboard...could there be a new genre champion this year, or is he just spotting one game to open up the field?
