No reply to the PM yet. Still for sale. -
Hehehe oops 1978
-
I would estimate they turn up once every 5 years or so. I think it is rarer than Akalabeth, Mystery House, and the other grail PC games. I have a few other games from 1978 and 1979 and other "first in genre" games if people are interested in seeing them

Beneath Apple Manor. For the non-PC collectors here (which I think is the majority of members) this is the first ever commercially released RPG. Released in 1978 by Don Worth, it is also the first ever Roguelike, predating Rogue by 2 years.

This is the LRG price + shipping - much cheaper tha n ebay. I just don't really want this game. Shipping will be the actual cost to your location.

The Last of Us First Print

I was actually wondering if my copy happens to be a first print. Seems like there is no info readily available. -
The Last of Us First Print
BreaKBeatZ replied to BreaKBeatZ's topic in General Collecting Discussion
I figured the guy wants to try sniping other first prints without giving away his secret knowledge -
I noticed this listing of The Last of Us on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295478382650?hash=item44cbe2503a:g:L1IAAOSwpG5jx4hY&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsHyhPSlFjElgr1wCkUK5%2BcG16%2BXIv%2FX8RJSZqxuc9B0r6a%2BRmynNOL35Shzpb%2Fws2XZC5v1SB%2BIqYVpABvYmp%2Fz3OEwuEPelGhvvvejRNjo6dWg13UXxeLH6Ufc3FTARRL8kcvsrnob8sxO2LuKNAt4QpsrPvp1JWZruu0wP5vH%2FQfuamyvhkRaRzofXOuYg0k9te8vjtsyr7gB3hk8%2BoYyoanDqU1lSvMXWjBzt%2FJa%2B|tkp%3ABk9SR87qqN28YQ The seller states in the description "Please don't ask me why this is first print and how do I know." Since I can't ask him, does anyone here know? I have noticed that the address on the back can vary, but I'm not sure if that is the only discerning factor. Anyway, thanks in advance

Dragon Warrior II/III Mail Away Posters
BreaKBeatZ replied to DK's topic in General Collecting Discussion
Infocom and Origin were doing the "limited run thing" much earlier, and with really cool items. "Feelies" as the PC collectors call them -
I have an itch that I need to scratch - a turn based strategy game that I can play on Switch. I want it to be combat focused, so while I like Civilization and other similar games, I am looking for a game that is centered around grid based tactical battles. I just gave X-Com 2 a try (picked it up cheap in a lot of games), and found it terribly slow after a couple hours. I loved the original PC game so that was a disappointment. A few examples of games I enjoy from the genre - Fire Emblem series, Master of Orion/Master of Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic series, Disgaea series. The more statistics and items, the better. Any suggestions?

Wata NES pop report now available
BreaKBeatZ replied to inasuma's topic in Sealed & Graded Collecting
Here is some of the Q&A from WATA, This is total BS. All data is readily available and they are just trying to milk this for as long as they can. The longer people think sealed Wii games are rare, the longer they get away with the scam. Q: Why does this Pop Report only include NES games? A: NES games are our largest submitted system and we wanted to make sure to provide the greatest benefit to our customers right away. Q: Why not wait to release a full Pop Report? A: We felt compelled to share something of note with our collecting community now and while this is by no means a full picture, it does provide a solid look at grading stats for NES games. This particular report is a limited, temporary effort while we work on the more robust process of generating dynamic Pop Reports for all systems. Q: Why no seal ratings? A: The bottom line is we very much want to include seal ratings going forward, but we couldn’t achieve it in this version due to the complicated nature of gathering all the data and sharing it in a digestible, user-friendly manner. We appreciate that a pop report without seal ratings is incomplete, but we didn’t want to make perfect the enemy of the good. We will get there soon! -
Fake Atari is buying Mobygames
BreaKBeatZ replied to DefaultGen's topic in General Collecting Discussion
This is tragic. The amount of information on PC games is immense, and that info is much harder to find from other sources than info on console games. This will be devastating for PC collectors. -
If it's a troll it's a really good one. @Dad Racer - Sharedata Chiller is quite rare.

Do PS2/Wii Games Need Box Protectors?
BreaKBeatZ replied to Lago's topic in General Collecting Discussion
I only use them for sealed games. -
As others have said, there was no change to the law regarding how you must pay taxes. However, the IRS (or state government) will now be able to catch you for not paying taxes on these sales. If this works as intended, the IRS is not collecting double taxes. If you buy a game for $100, the seller had to pay tax on the amount they profited. Then, if you sell it for $200, you only pay tax on the additional $100. In my opinion, here are the two huge oversights with the law: Many of us do not have proof of the cost basis for items we bought long ago as part of our hobby that we didn't intend on selling. In these cases, it will be very hard to pay taxes on profit only. We can't claim losses on items that were "supposed" to depreciate in value. If I buy a new car for $20,000 and sell it used a few years later for $10,000, I have to eat the loss. On the other hand, I still have to pay taxes on items that increased in value, regardless of whether they were "supposed" to increase. Using a car as an example again, many people bought used 2001 Honda S2000s in 2010 for around $12,000 because they wanted to drive the cars. Now that car has become collectible and sells for around $27,000, and sellers have to pay capital gains taxes on the $15,000 profit. That is the situation many of us are in with video games. We bought them to play or for our personal collection, not as investments. We never expected to pay taxes on them and can't claim losses on similar sales.

I don't think NES collecting will die until video game collecting as a whole dies. Not many people remember reading Action Comics 1 when it was released, but it's still worth millions in high grade. I compare this to long standing franchises that began on the NES (Mario, Zelda, Mega Man, etc.). Additionally, many non-super hero golden age comics with no correlation to current comics are still worth a lot. Golden age comics from the genres of war, romance, horror, crime, and "good girl art" books are all very collectible and expensive even though they are not currently popular genres. They are valued for their history, artwork, and content rather than a correlation to current comics. I think this will also be true of well made and rare NES games that are dead franchises (Power Blade, Panic Restaurant, etc.).
