  1. I completely agree that 35 is an unusual anniversary to make a big deal out of, but I also think Nintendo should be consistent with their big IPs. It just seems odd that they would make a huge deal out of 35 years for Mario, but not for Zelda. I now Mario is a bigger deal, but Zelda is still up there.
  2. Make sure your games are clean first because the end label stickers attach to both halves of the cart. You aren't going to want to take them apart again after you apply the sticker.
  3. I grew up with the NES and SNES, so I was definitely a Nintendo kid, but we went with the PS1 during that generation. It should come as no surprise to anyone that I love the PS1 since it's my favorite console, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the N64. I had several friends in high school who had an N64 and I played enough games to know the system was excellent. With that said, I never regretted getting the PS1 and I still rank the PS1 higher to this day. Most of my memories of the N64 came from my college years, when the PS2 and GC were already out. That's when I finally bought a used N64. During my college years, I probably played more N64 than PS1 simply because it was still new for me. Goldeneye and Mario Kart were always my favorites. I never got into any of the 3D platformers on the N64, and because of that, those games are difficult for me to enjoy today. Overall, it's a great system, and Nintendo made the most out of the unusual decision to stick with cartridges. If there is any benefit to the systems super small library, it's the fact that there is much less shovelware compared to other consoles with larger libraries. You could argue that the N64 has one of the better good/bad game ratios. But that's typical with small game libraries for Nintendo consoles (same can be said for Wii U).
  4. You act like the Switch is priced out of the reach of most people. It's not. The price is more than fair for what you get and considering how well it's selling, it would be more than foolish to lower the price. It's easy to say that when you aren't in a position to make those calls. I guarantee you make the same call as Nintendo if you were truly in that position.
  5. I think 9 is a proper rating because I believe EVERYONE should play this game. When I say everyone, I mean everyone, not just gamers. The retirement community that my Grandmother used to live in still has Wii Sports bowling leagues every Friday. This game can be enjoyed by anyone.
  6. If you were running the company and your job is to increase profits or they will replace you, would you include a free game or price drop on one of the best selling and fastest selling video game consoles?
  7. I'm not sure I follow. Why should they drop the price of the Switch?
  8. I believe Rae Dunn is an old, old wooden ship used in the Civil War era.
  9. Yeah, I'm specifically talking about games that are approximately one year old (as I mentioned in my initial post). This thread is about modern game collecting and I was simply explaining why some people bother to buy games when they first come out because for some developers and publishers, the games hold their new value long enough that it's simply not worth the time it takes to wait for that game to get cheaper. This primarily involves first party Nintendo tiles and game published by Limited Run Games or similar publishers. This doesn't apply to many high selling AAA tiles on Sony and Microsoft consoles. For those games, just wait 3 months and buy it when it gets discounted to $20. That's an example where it's worth the wait to save that kind of money.
  10. For some games, this is true, but for the games I was specifically referring to in my example, finding one for that much of a discount over market value is a time consuming process that simply isn't worth my time anymore. Yes, it's nice to apply those savings to future game purchases, but I don't just value the money I spend. I value my time as well.
  11. I would be down with some DLC as well, as long as the initial game has a decent number of courses. Don't give us 9 holes and expect to pay for more with DLC. With that said, I'm not worried. Nintendo seems to have handled DLC correctly in the past.
  12. Lately, I've been buying games in a manner similar to what Gloves is saying. In the past, I would never buy a game when it first came out because I would never want to spend $60 on a new game. But in recent years, first party Nintendo titles tend to hold their value for quite a while. Sometimes after an entire year has pasted, the used copy of a game might still go for $50. Is it really worth getting a one year old game that is used and grimy just to save only $10? At this point in my life, the answer is no. That doesn't mean that I buy every single first party Nintendo title at launch, but I'm certainly more likely to do so now then I was 5 or 10 years ago.
  13. One of the biggest issues with collecting for modern gaming systems (PS4/XBO included) is that these generations have a very large number of low print games in their libraries. And while not all of these games have shot up in value, the vast majority have at least maintained their initial purchase price. Of course with the extremely large number of low print games, there are a lot of people that think the market can't maintain these high prices and the values may come down at some point. Whether you believe that or not, it still leaves an extremely large number of games that have very limited print numbers which is a collector's nightmare no matter what the prices are. And these low print games include several VR titles.
  14. Awesome. Congrats!!! I will have to watch the video tomorrow.
  15. I've never actually played it, but while I always enjoyed motion controls, I always thought they worked better in shorter party style games where you didn't plan to play for very long. I never liked the concept of using motion controls for full length video games such as Zelda, Mario or Metroid games. I will almost certainly give the HD remake of Skyward Sword a try.
  16. I'm still catching up, but yes, those new Joy Cons look awesome. I mean, if I get them, I get them, but if not, no big deal. As far as Skyward Swords is concerned, I'm really glad they offer the option to play without motion controls.
  17. It's crazy to think that the PS3 is the worst selling PlayStation home console, despite still being in the top 5 best selling home consoles of all time.
  18. I agree. This is one of the few examples of a game that probably shouldn't have a physical copy.
  19. This is the first Sequel Showdown where I've owned and played every game in the list. And it's by far the most difficult one to choose. For me, it's down to either SMK, MK64, MKWii or MK8D. I have the most time spent with those 4 games by far compared to the others. SMK gets points for being the original and having the nostalgia factor. I also believe it's aged better then most of the other retro MK titles. It's also the most difficult in my opinion. MK64 gets points because it's the game I've spent the most time with playing multiplayer. The memories from playing the same course over and over again until 2 in the morning with my college buddies will last forever. MK Wii gets points because I have the most time with it period. I know this game hardly ever gets any love, but I always thought it was fantastic, and thank God they make the motion control driving optional. MK8D gets points simply for being the most refined and polished MK game yet. They took everything that worked well in previous games and perfected it. It's difficult to choose. My heart says to go with the original, but my brain says to go with Deluxe. I'll think it over a little before I cast my vote.
  20. I was thinking rental store sticker as well. Maybe they wanted the M rating to be more obvious. But that's a guess.
  21. I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of any of the 2D overhead Zelda games in the same style as the Link's Awakening Remake. I enjoyed that remake so much, I don't care if they are full price.
