  1. Only if you've been living in a cave since March and didn't realize we were in a pandemic.
  2. In all fairness, Trump is a sufficiently arrogant guy that I might be willing to entertain the thought that he just dislikes most people, in general, and while he doesn't go out of his way to be particularly "not racist", a lot of what gets attributed to racism with him could probably be chalked up to general disdain for humanity and he'd say and do the same stuff about working class white people if he didn't think they were voting for him. That is, I think the guy is stuck at the juncture of cognitive dissonance where he simultaneously believes he is superior to everyone, in general, while also being so quick to anger when challenged due to a pretty bad inferiority complex. Just makes him a huge asshole rather than explicitly racist.
  3. Neat idea. Converting the figures from one of those Mario chess sets into ornaments could be a fun thing to do with the kids (and they are pretty cheap in a price-per-ornament sense)
  4. Because not talking about it doesn't make the underlying problems go away.
  5. As an FYI, but if you just add universal healthcare on top, then you're double counting with medicaid and medicare
  6. But would you admit that even were universal healthcare successfully implemented, America would still be WAY LESS socialist than commonly portrayed by right wing messaging?
  7. I'll bet most that fit the trope are right-leaning. (at least based on my experience of women I know that fit the description)
  8. Goonies goes a bit beyond that, as one of the first movies with Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, or Josh Brolin. (also has Short-Round from Temple of Doom) Josh Brolin was obviously older than the rest of them, but it is a rare set of child actors that are actually legitimately good. All of the kid-group dynamic of Stranger Things plays off it as a foundation, as well.
  9. That "majority of people you grew up with" are a "subset" of people that were at a specific age and time to have enjoyed Hook more. And it kind of grosses me out
  10. Yes, completely valid. Just saying, that in trying to think better of one's fellow man, one can HOPE that the fraction of those that voted for Trump don't linearly extrapolate to the general population. (there are a large group of people that either aren't motivated one way or the other, or don't turn out because they think their vote doesn't count because of the "color of their state")
  11. I am trying not to throw up in my mouth a little at the idea of a subset of people (1) comparing Hook to Goonies at all.. and (2) liking it more
  12. Even with this being a record turnout, it is only something like 65% of eligible voters, so quite a few less than half actually voted for him.
  13. There is probably a profitable coffee table book as a companion to the Covfefe Table Book I joked about called "Could you Imagine if Obama did that?"
  14. People that support Trump ignore an immense amount of what he says and does. Should come as no surprise.
  15. And during that time, he is still expected to have his administration work with Biden's transition team, so that in the (likely) event that he loses there will still be a smooth transition of power.
  16. @Quest4Nes Serious question -- are you actually buying into Trump's narrative on this, and holding out hope that he hasn't actually lost?
  17. I think that is completely plausible and very "on brand" for Trump... but honestly, I think he is just desperate to not leave office this soon where he enjoys temporary immunity from prosecution, while on the outside a long list of court battles, both criminal and civil, wait for him.
  18. https://fox2now.com/news/national/luzerne-county-resident-facing-voter-fraud-charges-after-accusations-of-submitting-absentee-ballot-application-for-deceased-mother/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=t.co&utm_campaign=socialflow Also, this... (trump supporter attempting to vote on behalf of his dead mother)
  19. He looks like he's cosplaying as a mashup Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix and Michael Jackson.
  20. As a side note, I noticed that my neighbors have their Trump flag at half-mast. It is hilarious.
  21. Just imagine how much worse it would have been if we'd done nothing at all. And, arguably, how much better it could have been if it was handled better nationally and the president didn't use his influence to convince his followers that it wasn't a big deal.
  22. You should read up on the Sweden thing, in more detail. I know it is a popular talking point, but they had a pretty rough outcome as things go, and I thought their "success" without a lockdown was largely debunked (i.e. they ended up with comparable economic damage from rational behavior from the public avoiding the same things that would have been shut down anyway)
